Facebook-style friend links

Facebook-style friend links

Short, concise description of the idea
Typing @blah performs same function as lj user="blah" in brackets.

Full description of the idea
On Facebook, you can quickly link to a friend by typing the at symbol (@) and beginning to type their name. This brings up a drop-box with possible friends, and then you click on the one you want.

A modification of this would make posts in which you mention other LJ users easier to write. Simply type "@username" and it will show up the same as if you'd typed out lj user="username" in brackets.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Faster linking to friends
Lack of html-like code is more intuitive for many people
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • As the update.bml page uses html to do everything, this may be out of the scope of the way LJ works. I think Facebook uses Java to do what they do.
