Banned Communities List

Banned Communities List

Short, concise description of the idea
Enable users to see a list of communities from which they are banned.

Full description of the idea
Currently, there is no way to know if you've been banned from a specific community unless you try to post there and get the "Logged in user: username - you have been banned from commenting in this journal." message.

A user can accidentally evade a ban if he is banned from a community, isn't aware, creates another journal, and posts to that community under his new username. This is against LiveJournal's abuse policy (Journal Ban Evasion) and can result in having your account terminated, especially if this happens in multiple communities.

A user may be banned from a community and not know why. This will allow him to contact the community's maintainer(s) and ask for a reason.

A feature could be implemented similar to ban_list in the Admin Console—possibly something like ban_list for username.

An ordered list of benefits
  • A user can see which communities from which he is banned.
  • Can prevent accidental ban evasion.
  • Will allow a user to inquire as to why he was banned from a community if the reason is unclear.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Could make it easier for trolls to evade bans by producing a list of banned communities, giving a list of ones to target specifically or more maliciously.
