Block online quizzes

Short, concise description of the idea
A user preference that will enable online quiz blocking.

Full description of the idea
Online quizzes were kind of amusing at first, but now they have become a nuisance by filling up my friend's page with them. My idea is to add simple filtering to find possible quiz posts and replace them with a <lj-cut> link that will indicate that the post probably contains quiz data, and to click on it if you want to read it.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Less clutter on the friend's page.
  • Often the quiz results contain images, which add to load time. This will be especially nice for dial-up users.
  • Cries of joy from those of us who don't enjoy skimming through all these quiz results.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Coding.
  • It would add Yet Another Thing To Process.
  • Depending on implementation, it might create an undesired hit on the servers.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Two things came to my mind immediately. The first would be a simple regexp such as..
    /take the \w+ (test|quiz)/i
Whenever it would encounter this, it would do what I suggested above in the Full Description. All the tests now seem to have this, so it would be effective enough to catch maybe 60% (?) of them.
  • The second was a list of key strings that yell, "I'm an online test!" This list could contain URL's back to the tests, the "Take the zyz test at ..." line, etc. When the string is encountered in a post, it would do the same thing as above.
This list would have to be maintained by a trusted source as there would be the potential to block legitimate posts.
