single-page view of all comments on an entry
Short, concise description of the idea
I would like for a particular layout feature that shows every comment (even if there are 10000 of them!) on a *single* page, fully expanded out.
Full description of the idea
Currently, livejournal has two separate throttles on pages reaching large size due to the quantity of comments. One, comment threads are compacted and may be expanded using the "expand" or "thread" options - and two, after a certain number of comments (100?), a second page is generated, and after another 100, a third, and so on and so forth.
this does have its benefits (namely, not subjecting people to an endless page load if they do not wish to read the comments) but for those that *do* wish to read them all, this implies a lot of clicking and a lot of page loads.
Frankly, page loads are annoying. Even if the internet connection is perfect, the click for a new page request and the subsequent load time is enough to derail a train of thought. Therefore, the option should be there for a "view every single comment, fully expanded, on *one single page*".
to avoid the bugaboo of having a "show all comments, expanded" feature *on the entry page itself* (i.e. necessitating one further page load), add options of "view comments (expanded) (compressed)" onto the friends page. Alternately, make it a flag in a journal's theme.
- only one page load to view every comment in an entry.
- some pages will be made incredibly large.
