Adding timezones

Title
Adding timezones

Short, concise description of the idea
Add the poster's chosen timezone to the timestamp.

Full description of the idea
As LJ users post from all over the world, it would be helpful to know how long ago someone made a post, particularly with some that might be more time-sensitive (regarding comments and replies). Right now, as I understand it, posts are timestamped with the time the OP set but giving no indication to the reader as to whether "7:00 PM" was GMT or EST.

Can we just add the name of the timezone, so it would appear as "Nov. 28th, 2008 at 7:00 PM CST"?

An ordered list of benefits
  • Make it more apparent whether you're replying (or reading) in a timely fashion
  • Help you remember roughly where your friends are located (US, Europe, Asia, etc.)
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • I suppose someone could consider this a privacy issue, but timezone is a very broad field
  • Timezone not specified - in which case it would default to the server's timezone
