Adding META TAGS to "To-Do List"

Title
Adding META TAGS to "To-Do List"

Short, concise description of the idea
Adding the NOINDEX meta tag to http://www.livejournal.com/todo/?user=username for those that have requested search engine blocking.

Full description of the idea
In the past, Google has been very good at indexing LiveJournal websites, particularly when metatags were not used to block it from indexing. Allowing people to include a NOINDEX tag has meant substantially less concern of search engine indexing. However, one personal page still exists that is not covered by the metatag protection - each person's "To-Do List" at http://www.livejournal.com/todo/?user=username. As a result, Google has indexed massive numbers of "To-Do Lists". For those that have recognisable usernames, this is of great concern, as it's a searchable "backdoor" to the journal. Adding the following tag: <:META name="robots" content="NOINDEX"> to the To Do List page if they have the privacy option on, is a good idea, and would require only the same code as already written for LASTN, etc.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Users feel more comfortable about online journal.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Requires a few minutes of developers' time
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Determine code for addition of META tag on the LASTN view.
  • Add same code to to-do list page.
  • Submit for CVS.
  • Tags: external services, privacy, § implemented
