website link on profile

Short, concise description of the idea
allow lj-code linking in the website spot on profiles

Full description of the idea
There are many people, myself included, who use the website link on our profiles to link between different journals, or a journal and community. My thought would be adapting the spot for a link to accept <lj user="username"> to better embrace this use.

Such could be done either by modifying the current link text box, or adding a third data box for linking a journal that would override the "link" and "name" fields (preventing code death by double-linking. That or don't set an override and let the users learn by botching their profiles) onto the edit profile page.

Or, add a separate field in the profile for linking a journal.

An ordered list of benefits
  • makes more sense for journal/journal or journal/comm linking
  • visually more appealing
  • journal link isn't lost in the bio where it may be hard to find/see
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • double-linking by someone using all the website fields may cause unusual layout hiccups
