Customize Friending Options

Short, concise description of the idea
There should be "friendship levels" available so that users can choose how connected they want to be to other users.

Full description of the idea
I used to have someone on my friends list whose entries, in all honesty, I had no interest in reading. I didn't mind if she read my f-locked entries, but I really had no interest in reading hers.

The flipside of this - if you would like to read someone else's journal but you don't want them to have access to your f-locked entries. Users should NOT have to use Custom Friends Groups for every entry in this scenario.

So what I'm suggesting is a multi-tiered friending service. Users should be able to choose:
A. I have access your f-locked journal and you have access to mine (currently the only option)
B. I don't have access your f-locked journal but you have access to mine
C I have access to your f-locked journal but you don't have access to mine

An ordered list of benefits
  • -allows users the option of filling their friends page with entries they actually want to read/have access to, without having to filter their friends page.
  • -allows users to maintain privacy when they choose to, without having to use custom friends lists for every single entry
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • -some users may get offended if someone doesn't want to read their journal, so that might be problematic.
