Search by Interest Results by Name OR Last Updated

Title
Search by Interest Results by Name OR Last Updated

Short, concise description of the idea
Restore alphabetical results searching for communities/people by interests OR allow the option of sorting by “Last Update” or Name.

Full description of the idea
While including information about “Last Updated” is very useful when searching for a community, listing results by this rather than alphabetically dramatically reduces the ease of use and actual functionality of the feature.

For example, if I were looking for a community dedicated to Stargate Atlantis icons, I now have to skim a list of 426 communities including personal fic and icon archives, discussion groups AND Atlantis focused communities.

When the communities are listed in alphabetical order, there is a chunk of 20 or so that start with “atlantis” in their name and another 30 or so that start with “sga” thus putting what I am looking for all in one place and allowing me to find communities that fit what I am looking for in about 1/4th the time of reading a list ordered by update time.

That being said, the “last updated” info is EXCELLENT to have, but using it as the sort criteria is not useful when using the search by interest feature. Please give us back the alpha list or the option for an alphabetical sort.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Ease of Use

  • This change would retain the benefit of “Last Updated” information while helping LJ users more easily locate communities they might be interested in.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • None that I know of. Retain the coding that adds “Last Updated” info to line with community name and title. Just delete the part about sorting by update time.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Seems like a pretty quick fix to me, but what do I know?
