Mechanism to claim anonymous comments

Mechanism to claim anonymous comments

Short, concise description of the idea
If you forget to log in, and post an anonymous comment, you should be able to log in and claim it.

Full description of the idea
Obviously this could lead to abuse, so my suggestion is to limit this to anonymous comments made by the same IP address within a short time period. As I see it, you'd realize immediately that you forgot to log in, and would log in right away to claim it.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Allows proper attribution for anonymous comments

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • If the DB is different for anon and attributed comments, could be difficult to implement efficiently
  • Would require a little extra logic to have a clean UI... ideally you'd only want the "claim this comment" link to show up on claimable comments according the IP/time standard

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • see above
