Old edited entries in syndicated feeds

Old edited entries in syndicated feeds

Short, concise description of the idea
Older, edited entries should show up in users' syndicated feeds.

Full description of the idea
As it seems now, changes made to entries recent enough to still be in a user's RSS and ATOM feeds are reflected in the feed. Wouldn't it make sense to have updates to older entries show up in feeds?

For instance, I have an entry from many months ago that I still update now and then as I add more things to my list. Changes to it aren't apparent, either to users reading my journal from their friends page or anyone syndicating it, so I've gotten in the habit of posting a new entry pointing to it every time I update it.

An ordered list of benefits
  • People reading LJs via syndication can stay abreast with the 'latest' old stuff.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Slightly larger feeds; more data to serve when feeds are accessed.
  • Development time, etc.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Clearly, this won't help people reading LJs from their friends page (perhaps another suggestion entirely?) or solve world hunger and so forth, but it seems a step in the right direction.
