Allow "OpenID" comments
Short, concise description of the idea
Now that LJ has implemented OpenID, there should be a way to allow those comments in in the "Manage Info" area.
Full description of the idea
In the "Manage Info" area there are currently three settings to control who may comment to a given journal: "Who can reply to your entries? Anybody | Registered Users | Friends Only."
Using the option "Registered Users" is a great way to screen out spam and Anonymous posters. However, under the current system, that setting also screens out all OpenID posters.
In order to allow OpenID comments under the current system, users must select "Anybody" (which of course allows Anonymous comments and potential spam or abuse).
There needs to be a way either to (1) specifically allow OpenID posters or (2) specifically screen out anonymous posters.
- Livejournal users could permit posts from registered users on other systems, for example DeadJournal and GreatestJournal, without leaving their journals open to Anonymous comments and spam.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- It may be difficult to implement, involving a modification of the LiveJournal code.
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- Add one item to the drop-down list on the Manage Info page: "Who can reply to your entries? Anybody | Registered Users | Friends Only." To this list, add "OpenID and Registered Users."
Another option would be to simply include OpenID posters under the heading "Registered Users."
