Special Designation for Icon Journals

Special Designation for Icon Journals

Short, concise description of the idea
A new type of account that would allow for easier posting, sharing, and searching for icons to use as Userpics.

Full description of the idea
Distinct from personal journals, communities, and feeds, this would be a type of account one could join or friend. The system of posting and sorting icons would be standardized, allowing room for individual expression in comments and prefaces to the graphics.

With the present "system" it is difficult to find icons of a specific subject or style, and the heavy cross-referencing between individual icon journal pages and communities is inconvenient and confusing. I believe official icon journals, with graphic posts one could label (with tags) and others could search for would be well received and make sharing graphics far easier.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Easier to search for specific pictures
  • More concentrated feedback on graphics posts
  • Fewer cumbersome, cluttered cross-posts
  • Better promotion for creators
  • Encouragement to maintain active icon journals

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Would take a vast effort to impliment
  • Slow conversion from present system to new
  • System might not suit everyone's taste
  • Difficult to track graphics hosted on private accounts, file sharing services, etc.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Set up this account type and begin offering it! True this is more of a "Wouldn't that be great?" idea than a "Let's do it tomorrow!" one, but it would have a significant impact on how the one of the most common activities within the whole LJ community is approached (more so than tags, dare I say!) and thus is worthwhile.
