Short, concise description of the idea should sponsor a college scholarship for Livejournal users who intend to major in English or a related subject.

Full description of the idea
I think Apart should consider sponsoring a college scholarship for Livejournal users. Interested users who are seniors in high school could submit a certain number of LJ entries for review, and the user(s) with the most writing skill would be awarded the scholarship money. This scholarship would be intended for students in the U.S. who intend to major in a literature- or language-related subject, and would consist of a financial reward to be used toward tuition, room and board, transportation, books and supplies, or any other school-related expense the student might have.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Would attract users to Livejournal
  • Would aid Livejournal users in pursuing higher education

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Would be difficult to ensure funds are used for the purpose for which they are intended
  • Would be unfair to Livejournal users who are not U.S. residents
  • Might be difficult to read and review all entries

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Begin accepting LJs for review about 4 months before the funds are to be awarded
  • Judge entries based on creativity, writing style, etc.
  • Possibly require entrants to create an LJ specifically for the scholarship
