Adding communities as friends

Adding communities as friends

Short, concise description of the idea
When joining a community and clicking the box to add said community to your friends list, it defaults to the black on white coloring.

Full description of the idea
I propose that if the new member highlights the box to add the community to their friends list, that clicking the "join community" button should then give them an option to change the colors they want to use for that community, either through tacking it on to the bottom of the "join community" page or by using a follow-through to the "modify friend" page.

I use different colors to differentiate between friends, communities, RSS feeds, official announcement communities and such and it is a real pain to have to go through all the extra clicks.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Users would be able to edit their color choices upon joining the community.

  • It would involve far less clicking.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Having the option on the same page may confuse some users into believing they have already added the community to their friends list against their wishes.

  • Having a follow-through may frustrate some users who are not concerned with the color schemes of their friends list.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Either add the existing code for modifying friends colors onto the "join community" page, or somehow add an option to be taken to a page to edit the colors when highlighting the box to add the community to your friends list.
