Checkbox Interface for dropping Community Membership

Checkbox Interface for dropping Community Membership

Short, concise description of idea:
Create a new page "Edit Communities" with a checkbox interface.

Full description of the idea
Retrofit the interface code from the Edit Friends page (http://www.livejournal.com/friends/edit.bml) to a new Edit Community Membership page, but change the underlying code to affect community memberships. This page would provide a easy checkbox interface to mass-drop community memberships. As Friended Communties currently show up on the Edit Friends page, it is possible to add this type of data to another page.

Provide a Select All button for this page, so that all Communities could be dropped except for ones you specifically uncheck.

Ideally, provide an additional column or a separate section marking Communities with Closed Membership, so that users will be extra-cautious when dropping those with closed membership. As this information is available through the Directory, it should be possible to add it to a new page.

Ordered list of benefits
  • Much quicker to drop communities
  • Edit: Provides a GUI for dropping deleted communities

    Ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Possible confusion with the Manage Communities page
  • Possible to make mistakes and drop too many communities; hard to rejoin communities with closed membership
  • Time and coding problems when melding Edit Friends Interface code, Community dropping code, and Community Membership type code

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Compare the Edit Friends page, the Community dropping code, and the Community Membership display code (Directory)
  • Create and test a prototype.
  • Add appropriate wording, and link it from the sidebar.
