LJ-specific tag for userpics

LJ-specific tag for userpics

Short, concise description of the idea
Create a tag such as <lj-icon user="[user]" keyword="[key]"> which shows the selected icon.

Full description of the idea
Turn <lj-icon user="[user]"> into <img src="[location of the specified user's default icon]" alt="[user]">.

Turn <lj-icon user="[user]" keyword="[key]"> into <img src="[location of the specified user's icon with the given keyword, or the default if that icon does not exist]" alt="[user: keyword]">.

Currently, to display a user's icon in a post or comment you need to go to the list of icons for that user, right-click on the one you want (or a similar browser-specific action), copy the URL, and paste that into your text. Most people already know their own keywords, and a lot of users could find it easier to retype keywords than to cut'n'paste a URL. Also, being able to quickly show someone's default icon can make identification easier for visually-oriented people.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Convenience when discussing userpics

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • More people will post with multiple userpics in the text, causing a higher demand on the userpic server.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • As with the other <lj-whatever> tags....
