Better email mangling

Better email mangling

Short, concise description of the idea
Do real email mangling like steve at njord dot org rather than just not putting a mailto: link.

Full description of the idea
Most sites that do email mangling have a bunch of randomly selected ways that emails get mangled. Browse through some slashdot comment threads for examples. I doubt that simply forgoing the mailto: link is going to stop determined robots.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Lower chance of email address harvesting

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Possible user confusion, but I doubt it.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Develop several different mangle styles and employ them by randomly selecting one to be used each day, or randomly selecting a new one each time the user info page is hit (though this may be a fair bit of overhead)
