LiveJournal "Final Wishes"

Short, concise description of the idea
A query as to what you would like done with your Livejournal in case of your death or severe disability

Full description of the idea
Basically, the idea would be to have a sort of LJ Will option in some area of LJ, probably the journal preferances section. In the case of your death, your LJ would be dealt with in a manner that you specified, ie "Send my password to the following e-mail addresses", "delete my journal permanantly" or "Render all entries public".

An ordered list of benefits

  • Would take care of LJ within the system itself, rather than through an outside source. (lawyer)
  • Keep silly nosey family members out of a person's LJ if the person did not intend for them to be there.
  • Secure the Final Wishes of the user.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • How to know if the peron is really dead
  • What to do is the person's LJ wishes are overridden by a judge
  • Witnesses....?
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • You'd have to talk to lawyers to figure out the legalities. I simply suggested it because this would have come in quite handy when my friend died, as to what she wanted done with her LJ entries. As it is, she'd given me her password so I could read all of her entries, but they're still on the web with the same security as they were on the day she died. It would be nice to know what she would have wanted done with her entries.
