Allow port numbers in syndication URLs

Title
Allow port numbers in syndication URLs

Short, concise description of the idea
Currently, the URL behind a syndication account may not contain a ":" followed by a number. It would be nice if this restriction were lifted.

Full description of the idea
For some reason, URLs containing port specifications (e.g. http://www.example.com:8080/feed.rss) are not allowed as source URLs for syndicated accounts.

However, some services provide RSS feeds on ports such as 8000 or 8080 (which have a fairly long history as "alternate" HTTP ports) or 8888. It would be nice if it would be possible to enable feeding from non-standard ports.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Ability to create syndicated accounts feeding from URLs that are currently not possible.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Someone could add a URL with a port number dedicated to another service such as 23 for telnet or 25 for smtp. On the other hand, even port 80 could harbour some non-http service.
  • Some typos may no longer be detected if the typo contains a colon followed by digits, but I'd say this is unlikely.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Remove the check for ":" in the hostname from htdocs/syn/index.bml.
  • Tags: syndication, § implemented differently
