Rating System for User Pictures

Title
Rating System for User Pictures

Short, concise description of the idea
Allow a "rating" system of User Pics for people who do not want to view certian images on their computer

Full description of the idea
I belong to a wide variety of communities, with a wide variety of people. While I appreciate the diversity of my online friends and communities, sometimes I don't feel like seeing pictures of their breast, butt, etc. on my computer. It is especially awkward when I am in a public place reading my friends list, and, of course, right when I get to a User Picture with someone naked on it, a friend walks up and I have to explain why this picture is on my computer.

I suggest a rating system (a simple one) for User Pictures, where the user with the picture rates which "level" it is at, and where each individual can choose which level they want to see on their friends page. Most people will probably be OK with any level, but some people, like me, prefer not to see certain things. I don't know which kind of a level system we should use (perhaps a mild, moderate, extreme system?), but that can be worked out after discussion.

I do realize that some morons will think that it is hilarious to have a picture of themselves (or someone else) naked and put it is the lower catagory. I can handle that kind of immaturity, but they will be few and far between. I do know, however, that my friends who have such icons will be mature enough to rate it, and to understand that certain people don't want to see certain things and be fine with that. I am guessing the majority of people would be willing to do this.

If an icon is blocked, I suggest that the users default picture, or one of a 'lesser' level be displayed. This isn't supposed to "oppress" anyone's free speech. It is just a way for users to censor what comes into their homes and computers, which I do not think is unreasonable.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Good feature
  • Allows people to feel more comfortable browsing their friends pages, especially in communities where they cannot control who posts
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • People will most likely take this as a form of censorship
  • Implementation
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • I am not sure, but I know that there are other ways to control your friends page, like friends censors, etc.
