Email posting - no auto-format and better mood icon selection

Title
Email posting - no auto-format and better mood icon selection

Short, concise description of the idea
I want to be able to make email posts with auto-format turned off so I can write straight HTML like I do for my web or client posts.

I also want the thing that tries to figure out if you're using a standard LJ mood from an email post to do a better job of matching standard moods.

Full description of the idea
Right now, when you make an email post, auto-format is always turned on. I hate auto-format. It looks ugly and wrong, even from the web client or an LJ client. It also puts newlines on every email line instead making paragraph breaks where a double-newline is encountered, which makes it look even worse.

I would like to be able to turn off auto-format for an email post. HTML is easy to write, and that's what I do for all of my LJ posts now anyway.

Also, LJ seems to do a very poor job of detecting that you're mentioning a standard LJ mood in the 'LJ-mood:' header in an email post. In fact, it always seems to decide that you really mean a custom mood. I like the little mood icons.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Consistency: email posts would more closely match other kinds of posting methods.
  • email posts could look prettier.
  • I could start using PGP signed email to make all of my posts instead of transmitting a garbled form of my LJ password over the wire from some random location in order to make a post.
  • I would find the email posting feature useful instead of merely frustratingly tantalyzing, but fatally flawed.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • The email posting interface might have a few new options and that might make it more confusing to some people.
  • People might find it surprising that LJ put the icon in for moods.
  • It might be hard for people to use standard mood names, but force them to show up like custom moods, without the icons.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Perhaps an 'LJ-autoformat:' header as well.
  • Stripping all whitespace from the beginnning and end of mood names given in the 'LJ-mood:' header before trying to match against one of the standard moods.
  • A really annoying method would be to require email to be text/html before auto-format would be turned off. Then the post would be extracted from the <body> of the HTML document. I hope nobody seriously thinks this way of implmenting it is a good idea.
