Improved friends group editing

Short, concise description of the idea
Do friends group editing with tables of checkboxes.

Full description of the idea
The current friends group editing UI, with the three list boxes, suffices to edit groups, but is quite unfriendly for big edits, especially ensuring that some set of subgroups are mutually exclusive and cover all my friends.

I feel strongly that a better UI is needed. I think the following would be better; I'd be happy to see other suggestions made too.

Make a table. Label the rows with friends, label the columns with groups. Next to each group name put scripting buttons to rename or delete the group. Add a button off the table to add a group. Fill in the table with checkboxes. Add a button off the table to save changes. Add a row of checkboxes for making the group public.

Optionally: allow a column to be hidden or columns to be reordered or on-screen width adjusted. give a link to a page listing the membership of a group.

An ordered list of benefits

  • This makes adding, removing, and checking groups against each other simpler and easier.
  • It's not modal with respect to one group.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Requires new coding & debugging.
  • Dynamical interactions with tables may be trickier than with the current listboxes.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Proposal could be modified to eliminate client-side scripting entirely, using just checkboxes and links to forms.
