Option to block out all userpics.

Option to block out all userpics.

Short, concise description of the idea
On the Edit Info page, allow a feature to block out showing all userpics of all LiveJournal users.

Full description of the idea
Many userpics can be offensive, not home/school/work-safe, induce seizures, or take too long to load on slower computers and Internet connections. Or they may just flat out be annoying. LiveJournal currently has only three restrictions on icons: size (100 x 100 or less), size (40K or less), and decency of default userpic). This would allow an option to not view userpics at all. Instead, on entry pages and journal/community pages (maybe in emals as well?), it would show nothing, as if the poster did not have an icon uploaded at all. Linked images on entry and journal pages would not be included in this.

An ordered list of benefits

  • User no longer has to worry about offensive or work-safe icons.
  • Easier on the loading time for slower computers and Internet connections due to less downloading.
  • Less uploading from LiveJournal's servers, therefore saving bandwidth.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Coding. I would imagine this could be very hard to code.
  • Icons were created for "aesthetic value", and the "artist" intended everyone to see.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
