Custom Mood Program Online

Full description of the idea
I'm not sure where I encountered an existing program like this -- maybe on Angelfire or some other easy-to-use website builder -- but instead of taking a lot of time to make your own set, wouldn't it be convenient to have a simple paint program online where you can edit existing icons and save them to your account?
There are, of course, some minor technicalities. This feature might be limited to paying users, as an online program would take some time to make. Custom moodsets would probably also have to be limited in order not to take too much space on the server. If each person got one set of .gifs they could alter at their will (including mood captions), it would probably be more than enough.
I think the benefits far outweigh the possible problems. For one thing, it would give members a better opportunity to create their own simple icons, as some people's computers lack a program with which to edit .gifs. Secondly, it would further diversify the LiveJournal community, which is ideal since every LiveJournal is unique anyway. Finally, it would also give even those that feel themselves "artistically challenged" to have an opportunity to make and express their own artwork, no matter how simple it is.

An ordered list of benefits

  • 1. Give those without proper paint programs the ability to customize their LiveJournal moodset
  • 2. Diversify the LJ community by allowing people free expression of their moods
  • 3. Allow those people who create mood icons to share their artwork and creative ability to the other LJ users
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • 1. Any program, even a simple paint program, is time-consuming to make
  • 2. Feature might be limited to paying customers
  • 3. Number of custom moodsets might be limited in order to preserve server space
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • 1. A simple program, accessible online, would have to be made in an applet or for temporary download.
  • 2. Distribute it among beta testers, who will likely discover any certain glitch in the program sooner rather than later. You would also have to implement the same rules to the testers as you would general LJ users, such as a limit to the number of custom icon sets.
  • 3. If the beta version is successful, allow general LJ users (paying or non) to use the program. There should also be an e-mail service concerning the program to ensure that any glitches will be made known to the LJ staff.
