Charity Auction/Raffle of permanent accounts

Title
Charity Auction/Raffle of permanent accounts

Short, concise description of the idea
Auction and/or raffle off a few permanent accounts, and give the proceeds to charity.

Full description of the idea
One thing that pops up fairly frequently in support is that there are users who would really, really like a permanent account, but have no way of getting one. This is Right and Good as permanent accounts shouldn't be easy to come by, in general terms. It does, however, show that there's some demand for them.

What I would propose is that a few permanent accounts (maybe 5 or so) are either raffled or auctioned off. It could be announced in news and then raffle tickets sold for, say $1 a piece or something. Or do an auction (either on ebay or Brad and co could knock up their own system, no doubt). Any money raised from this could then be given away to charity.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Raises money for charity.
  • Good publicity for LiveJournal.
  • Raise awareness of the existence of news
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Slight loss of revenue.
  • Not everyone might agree on the choice of charity.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • I post the suggestion here.
  • People say either "that sucks" or "that doesn't suck".
  • In the latter case, someone tells Brad.
  • He either says "that sucks" or "that doesn't suck"
  • In the latter case, he does it.
