Allow specific users to view an entry aside from friends groups

Short, concise description of the idea
Provide a text field as part of Custom entry security options which accepts a comma-separated list of user names. (Embellishment of this earlier suggestion.)

Full description of the idea
A friend of mine recently filtered one of her entries to a single user, through the use of a friends group containing only this user. I later realised that my friend had more than one of these single-user friends groups defined. Bearing in mind the imposed limit of thirty friends groups, I had a better idea: allow the user to specify a comma-separated list of user names which would have access to read a particular entry.

The process works like this: the user writes an entry, then selects Custom security. The user is presented with not just a list of currently-defined friends groups, but also a text field labeled "These user names:", in which the user types a few specific user names, such as "bradfitz, jayo, test". Upon updating, these extra users would be granted access to the entry.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Custom friends groups would not have to be defined for specially-protected entries restricted to one or more users;
  • Any user could be granted access to a particular entry, without needing to be added to your friends list first;
  • Any user could be temporarily granted access to a protected entry at a later stage.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Typos in user names could result in the wrong user gaining access to an entry, albeit without their knowledge;
  • Length of accepted text field input may have to be restricted, in turn placing a restriction on the number of "special" user names that can be granted access;
  • Perhaps a frivolous addition, considering its potentially limited usefulness to the wider user base.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Bribe the developers with their drug of choice to have a function implemented that parses the input of the text field and grants special security privileges to those user names it finds;
  • Add the text field, either as part of the Custom Security settings or underneath the main security pop-up menu, to allow for a security level of all friends "plus these users".
