username confirmation

Short, concise description of the idea
Users creating accounts should have to confirm their usernames before continuing with the account creation process.

Full description of the idea
There have been a bunch of support requests recently made by users who are irked because they've created an account with a typo in the username. I think that implementing an extra step could cut down on username typos. This could be in the form of a "re-type your username here" sort of form (like that used for password confirmations) or it could be a separate page or a Java thing. A lot of users seem to mistype their names and then are annoyed when they have to wait a week or pay $15 to fix their mistakes.

An ordered list of benefits

  • happier users
  • fewer unused accounts
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • creating an account would take a few more seconds
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • I'm not good with coding, but I think that the code used for password confirmation could probably be replicated for this.
