Read image tags in rdf feeds
Short, concise description of the idea
Have the rdf reader also read in image tags, if available.
Full description of the idea
Some rdf feeds have image tags on them. Said images are usually small pics that go along with the image, such as the Brunching Shuttlecocks logo, the Slashdot logo, etc. As it stands now, it does not appear that any syndicated feed has any sort of userpic or image associated with it at all. I'm suggesting that the rdf reader also load said images and make them the userpics for the feeds.
An ordered list of benefits
Easier to identify feeds, much like how userpics make it easier to identify friends.
Prettier friends pages. :-)
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
Bandwidth. Some limiting system would need to be in play to only download the image once a month or so.
LJ userpic compatibility. This system would also need to identify pics that aren't legal LJ userpics (too large of dimensions, too large a filesize).
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
The rdf reader would need to communicate with the userpic adding code to add the images to the database.
Said reading would also need to be able to check the size of the image and discard it if it's too large, either filesize-wise or dimension-wise.
To limit bandwidth use, the image checking should only be done once a month or once a week or so; in any case, less often than the rdf file is loaded, due to the size of images compared to rdf files.
