Optionally display group name on filtered posts.

Optionally display group name on filtered posts.

Short, concise description of the idea
On a filtered entry, display the name of the filter next to the padlock symbol. This could either be a variable in one's style or a checkbox in one's user settings (which lets it carry over to the talkread and talkpost views as well), or both.

Full description of the idea
I think the short version about covers it.

An ordered list of benefits

  • The poster can tell at a glance if the entry's settings are correct.
  • Readers know who else is reading a post and limit outside discussion appropriately. ("I never saw that." "But it was friends-only and you're on her friends list." "Must have been filtered, then." "Ooops! I didn't know I wasn't supposed to tell you about it.")
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Users have to be careful naming filters because others will be seeing the names.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Style variable, used within lastn_event_protected. It collects the filter name and displays it as text. This would permit users to display filter names (or not) in their own journals.
  • Checkbox in preferences. This would automatically turn filter name display on or off when the user is logged in, as with the option to add "&nc=xx". This would permit users to display filter names (or not) in the entries they read.
  • Tags: custom friends groups, entry viewing, user interface, § implemented differently
