checkbox to make posted comment screened

checkbox to make posted comment screened

Short, concise description of the idea
I'd like the ability to mark my comment as screened when I post it, so that only the person whose journal I'm posting in and I can read it (initially)

Full description of the idea
I've seen several old discussions about private comments, friends only comments, etc. With the new comment screening ability, it sounds like it would be easiest to just impliment a checkbox on the comment posting form that allows you to mark your comment as screened from the beginning, so that it is up to the person whose journal you're commenting in to choose whether to make it public or not.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Private comments.
  • Sounds easy enough to impliment.
  • Journal owner choice.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Abuse by posting tons of screened comments that the owner of the journal must deal with.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Although I'm not a coder, the description of the screened comment feature makes it sound like this is just a bit being toggled on or off in the database entry for the comment. It should be easy enough to impliment a checkbox to force that bit to be 1 (screened) when the comment is posted.
  • The checkbox shouldn't be a toggle for screened status, as what if the comment is already screened through some other process, such as all comments screened, anon comments screened, etc., we don't want to unscreen them.
