Googling of Live Journal

Googling of Live Journal

Short, concise description of the idea
Being able to use google algorithms to search LJ's website.

Full description of the idea
The directory search is just that; it only searches directories. To be honest, most people don't put adequate info in that, or info that honestly reflects what they write about. It would be a boon to paid members (heck i'd pay a premium for it) to be able to use google to search live journal for posts of interest.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Ability to search entries with google's algorithms
  • No longer limited to simply self-describing info.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Minor code tweaking + integration issues
  • Some people may wish to have their journals not searched (but really they should have friends only on anyway)
  • Depending on how pages are generated, might consume some server time -- i'd be willing to pay a few dollars extra a year to set up a server so that i could google my way through lj. =)
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • If necessary, there is the google search appliance: http://www.google.com/appliance/faq.html
  • Google already has integrated hooks into many websites. (Search xyz site with google)(for free) http://www.google.com/services/free.html
  • As well as the "custom" solution (which provides updated crawling)

  • Given the nature of LJ, the google developers might be willing to work out a special deal -- If anyone is interested, I'd be more than willing to take the lead in tracking this down.
