Right now, there are 100 entries in the Suggestions queue. Whoops. I'm hoping that within the next 48 hours I can clean it out.

Many, many of the entries in the queue are duplicates so you're not going to get hit with 100 entries. But since there were a few complaints last time I touched the queue, I feel like I need to point out: if you get really cranky when your friends page gets spammed with suggestions stuff, you may want to take us out of your default view for the next day or so.

Also, I haven't forgotten about the list of Most Suggested Features for you guys. I want to get that up soon, but I have to catch up on moderation first, as well as touch base with our development team.

Also, also, I know the "status" tags in this community are a mess right now and I don't know when I'm going to finish that up, but I will update top-level when I'm done with it. The problem is that my "submitted" and "planned" means something entirely different from the old "submitted" and "planned" back when this community was volunteer-run, so everything's sort of scrambled. Stay tuned; all will be explained in due time.

Thank you all for your patience, and I'm sorry that I haven't been able to process these entries or respond to Suggestions-related email as quickly as in the past. I hope to make things right this week! *salutes*

Title
Currently Reading

Short, concise description of the idea
Add a "Currently Reading" option at the end of each entry, much like the Current Music option.

Full description of the idea
A place to type what book you're reading in the same way we already type what music we're listening to for each entry.

An ordered list of benefits
  • The option would let people know what books I'm reading now, and how they influence what I'm writing.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • clutter could be a problem, but since the box is optional, I don't think it would be.

Title
Notifications.

Short, concise description of the idea
Better sectioning for notifications.

Full description of the idea
At the Inbox area, on the top left, notifications are broken down into types, entries and comments, new friends, birthday etc...

I think Comments and Entries should have their own section.

I may keep some notifications active so I can read entries someone has posted later, but want to single out all of my comments so I can reply to them. With this, I can't currently, all comment and entry notifications are grouped together.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Easier to navigate.
  • Quicker to sort and prioritize notifications.
  • Less bulky view.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • I can't think of any, seriously.
  • Erm... It might further my OCD for being organized and efficient?

Title
Web-Based Chat Rooms

Short, concise description of the idea
An in-browser, web-based chat room system.

Full description of the idea
I think it would be extremely useful for a lot of communities if a chat room feature was implemented. Ideally, they would be Java-based - taking Yahoo!Group chats as an example - and users would only have to be logged in to their LiveJournal accounts in order to access them. Aesthetic design would be up to the coders, such as whether or not to include customizable fonts.

An ordered list of benefits
  • It would be an entertaining place to hang out for community members who don't necessarily have anything to make an entry about.
  • It would make it much, much easier for members with common interests to socialize and make friends with each other.
  • In relation to the above point, roleplaying communities would especially find this useful for both in-character and out-of-character interaction.
  • It would be especially appealing to users who are unable to access IM applications at work, school, or other places away from home.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Moderation. (Moderators will not have time to watch over the chat rooms 24/7. However, they could easily be left unmoderated, as it is doubtful much more harm could be done in the chats in comparison to the spammers, trolls, and sockpuppets already rampant on the site.)
  • Possible heavy load on the servers.
  • Coding complications.

Title
Condense all search options on site scheme pages into one

Short, concise description of the idea
On site scheme pages, replace the current search interface of a text box and drop down menu with a single text box, and provide search results for all areas.

Full description of the idea
The current search interface is a pain. Let's say I want to search for suggestions. First I have to enter suggestions in the text box, then I have to select "site & user" from the dropdown, and then hit go. Then I get brought to another page that lists possible pages I might be interested in. What I'm proposing is thatthe dropdown be removed so all I have to do is search for suggestions and hit return/click go. This could then bring up a page of everything I might have been searching for: suggestions, users interested in suggestions, the suggestions area, the FAQ about suggestions, a user with the AIM username "suggestions" and so on.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Cleaner, simpler user-interface.
  • Simpler to search.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Not as obvious what criteria can be searched on.
  • Slightly more awkward to search for interests.

Title
More Userpics

Short, concise description of the idea
Paid and Permanent users should start out with 100.

Full description of the idea
Userpic space should be upped giving the members some added benefit we actually want. Paid and Permanent users should be given space for 100 userpics with an option to purchase more in 100 increments. Free users should be given more and should be allowed to purchase more userpic space ala carte in smaller increments of 50.

An ordered list of benefits
  • gives opportunity to have more userpics for various types of posts
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • space issues on the servers
