Insert Video option in Plain Text mode

Title
Insert Video option in Plain Text mode

Short, concise description of the idea
Allow users to easily insert videos in plain text mode.

Full description of the idea
In plain text mode there is a drop-down menu labelled as "Insert..." and users can choose to insert images from this menu. Users should also be able to to choose to insert Videos from this menu. On selecting Insert > Video in plain text mode the same "Please enter your YouTube URL:" message that would appear in rich text mode should appear. The users can then insert the URL of their YouTube video and the correct HTML will appear in their entry.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Allows users to easily insert YouTube videos in plain text mode.

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • None that I can think of.

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Use the same window that would appear in rich text mode.

target="_blank" option

Title
target="_blank" option

Short, concise description of the idea
Add a "target" option to the link window in the Rich Text composer of the web interface.

Full description of the idea
Everytime I put a link in my posts using the RTF web interface at LJ, I open up the source code window afterwards to add an extra target="_blank" to the link tag. It shouldn't be too difficult to add an option that adds that automatically by tickbox or something similar?

An ordered list of benefits
  • Users can browse link suggestions by others more comfortably, keeping the original journal open

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • None that I could imagine, as long as you keep the allowed attribute in "target" limited to "_blank" to avoid messing with frames

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Just implement an extra radio button or, better, a tickbox to indicate that you want the link to open in a new window, which simply adds target="_blank" to the tag.

Setting the sidebar width in Disjointed layout

Title
Setting the sidebar width in Disjointed layout

Short, concise description of the idea
Allowing a fixed width of the sidebar in the Disjointed layout will give more control over how the layout is displayed.

Full description of the idea
At the moment I can't add the 'page summary' to the sidebar in Disjointed as the summary will not wrap and makes the sidebar too wide, thus making the whole page too wide for my screen which is set to a moderate 1024px width.
This makes reading the journal a bit of a pain because of having to side-scroll.
Even without the page summary the layout is still just too wide for my screen, although this is not as much of a problem as the overflow is dead space anyway.

An ordered list of benefits
  • No side scrolling
  • More control over the layout (be it by pixels or percents, it will display better).

An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • [none that I am aware of]

An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
  • Fairly straight forward - adding the option in the custom options page of the layout.
