Email reply notifications - replies at the top

Email reply notifications - replies at the top

Short, concise description of the idea
Place the reply text at the top of the notifications, for quicker reading.

Full description of the idea
the new reply that you are being notified about should be the first part of the email message, with minimal introductory text. ("boymaenad said:" should be sufficient.) below this reply, include the item being responded to. this is the standard with Internet email replies. I can't believe I didn't find anything about this in memories already. inspiration: I get the top line or two of each email message I receive on my celphone. the more descriptive this is, the less I need to connect to the network and read my mail, using the tiny buttons to scroll down through my entire journal entry to reach the comment. often the connection is so flaky, I'll get halfway through my own entry and it will die, and I have to reconnect and start over. if the reply came first, I would get the gist of it without having to connect and retrieve mail at all, and I could connect and read the whole comment without having to scroll through my (sometimes pages and pages long) entry.

An ordered list of benefits

  • When getting the tops of email messages via a notifier such as ICQ or a wireless device, you can get the gist of the reply
  • Faster reading in regular mail apps, for those of us with time constraints
  • Don't have to scroll through long original message to reach a single line reply
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • when composing reply within an html notification, would require more scrolling around to see the item being replied to.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • I use plaintext notification, which doesn't have the above problem. possibly best to only implement this change in the plaintext messages/portion of messages.
