Comment Memory

Comment Memory

Short, concise description of the idea
Keep track of the last time a person visited a "View Comments" or lastn page and provide a visual indication that it has had additions since the last viewing.

Full description of the idea
Many communities, such as debate, can have a great deal of comments attached to a post. It would be very nice to have a feature, such as a graphic or text list, indicating which of these posts have comments that the current user has not yet viewed.

An ordered list of benefits

  • Reduces server requests by eliminating redundant "just to check" situations.
  • Better facilitates conversations by ensuring that pieces of a discussion are not overlooked.
  • Makes LiveJournal easier to use overall, as users will not have to hunt on a main page for the post that started a thread to see if anything new has been added to it.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • I do not know the be the best way to present the information on which threads have been updated.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Cookies could be used to record the last time each page was viewed, or the number of comments in response to a post.
  • So could a database table.
  • Tags: comment viewing, § historical
    • Post a new comment
