Time Bank / Time Vault

Time Bank / Time Vault

Short, concise description of the idea
A User could give some/all of their paid months to another user or users.

Full description of the idea

If you have any paid months, you may select another user or journal to donate them to.
For example: Sally who is paid up for a year may decide to give six of those paid months to her friend Jessy. Jessy is grateful, and uses three of those months to donate to the Time Vault at the Reactionaries community [probably a closed community, but it could be open.] All the members of Reactionaries now have free access to those paid months and may grab them up as they wish. Raphael, a member of Reactionaries, needs some paid months for the cause, and so he grabs one of those months out of the Reactionaries Time Vault for his own personal journal account. Later, the maintainer for Reactionaries logs in and notices the free time in the Vault, and uses one of those months to pay up time for the Reactionaries community itself.
At first, /~sally had twelve paid months and everybody else in this example had zero paid months. Now /~sally has six months, /~jessy has three months, /~raphael has one month, and /~reactionaries has one month paid time and one month in the vault.

An ordered list of benefits

  • 1. Making donations becomes a lot easier.
    2. Getting a little paid time becomes a lot easier.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • 1. I wouldn't want to write the legalese involved, but as long as paid months aren't refundable, I don't think it's anybody else's business -- however I'm not an attorney.
    2. Free users become a little bit more scarce and therefore a little more burden is placed on the paid servers. Also, a lot of 1 or 2 month accounts will become a more common scene.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • I gots no idea how to implement this. If you've ever logged on a BBS with a time bank door, you're a step ahead.
