Security Setting by Community (not just by entry)

Security Setting by Community (not just by entry)

Short, concise description of the idea
Be able to mark a community as a friends-only community where all posts sent are given that security level.

Full description of the idea
Currently security options are always on a post by post basis. But what if I want to run a private community? Well, I can tell the members to all post friends-only, and that works, and is being done. But it requires constant effort, changing security settings, and mistakes happen. This would ensure privacy and let people make communities they feel truly safe using because they know no one outside the community will be able to see its contents.

An ordered list of benefits

  • More secure communities, fewer slip-ups.
  • Less work for the members in the community.
  • More control for maintainers of how they want their communities run.
  • An ordered list of problems/issues involved

  • Someone has to code it.
  • Some people might prefer the flexibility of being able to choose the security level themselves.
  • It'd take up space on the servers storing another variable for each community.
  • An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation

  • Code it.
  • Test it.
  • Implement it.
  • Sing the LiveJournal theme song.
  • Tags: community membership, security, § implemented differently
