Remove @replies when importing public tweets

Remove @replies when importing public tweets

Short, concise description of the idea
The Twitter Connect feature can publish public tweets in the journal, please remove replies from this feed (anything starting @username)

Full description of the idea
The Twitter Connect feature has an option "Publish public tweets to my journal". However, this publishes all tweets, including replies to a user (starting a tweet with @username). It would be helpful for an option to disable the import of replies, and just publish tweets intended for the general public timeline.

Replies are intended for one person. While not strictly private, they are not intended for general consumption and shouldn't be in a LJ

In addition, as a reply will be in response to something, publishing replies will mean nothing to anyone else on LJ, it would be like listening to half of a conversation.

Twittinesis ( has the ability to push tweets to LJ, while stripping out replies - just ignore any tweet starting with a @ - so shouldn't need much coding.

An ordered list of benefits
  • Avoid confusing LJ friends with replies to other twitter users
  • Less cluttered twitter posting in LJ
  • Avoid potential privacy issues by not posting stuff not intended for public consumption
  • Many people complain about seeing tweets in LJ - seeing replies to tweets is more annoying!
