Improved Search Facility
Short, concise description of the idea
Although there are a number of ways to search, items like the directory search are quite limited and the directory search currently seems to be broken.
Full description of the idea
With the sheer number of people that use LiveJournal I think that the search facility needs to be improved in order to try and find new “friends” and new journals to read. The current directory search is limited (and broken although I’ve raised a support ticket for that), and so my proposal is to update certain areas of the directory search.
The By Location section: It would be nice if this contained an option to search by region, for example, Europe, South America, and North America etc. This would eliminate the need to enter each country individually.
I would also like to see a Journal Language option, so that you could choose the language of the journals you would like to search for, after all there is no point pulling up a Russian language journal if you don’t speak Russian. The benefit of this would be people that speak less known languages would be able to quickly find journals to read and people that only read/speak English for example can further narrow their search.
Under the recently updated section, I think we should day, 24 hours, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month as options.
Within the by interest section I would like to be able to so to a screen that lists my interest and then be able to tick multiple interest and search on those, a bit like when you go into a friends interest list manually and you can modify you own interests based on theirs.
The other sections within the Directory search can stay as they are.
- Benefits would be that the searches provided would be narrowed down better to journals that you want to read rather than having to trawl through a long list.
- The searches will be more relevant to an individuals needs.
- Apart from the coding I cannot see any drawbacks to this, it will make Live Journal easier and more fun to use, connecting people with the same interests.
