Underage/Adult separation of content.
Short, concise description of the idea
Implementing an 'adult pass' system on lj to keep underage users away from adult content.
Full description of the idea
IMVU and Facebook are just a couple of the sites that already use the 'Adult Pass' system. Basically, for a low *one time* fee, a user buys an adult pass. This is done with a c.card or other payment option that is available *only* to those eighteen or older.
Any journal whose owner is an adult can then flag their journal as 'adult only' and content can only be viewed by other 'adult pass' users.
This will keep underage/teen users out of adult content and insure that *only* adults who want to view adult content can do so.
I would gladly pay a one-time *reasonable* fee to insure no minors had acess to adult material on my lj.
- Generates extra profit for LJ.
Keeps underage users away from adult content.
Puts the liability for underage and adult users on the *users* shoulders.
Gives Livejournal a way to insure outside interests/investors/advertisers that their site is adult *and* family-friendly.
Keeps current adult LJ users from running screaming from random, un-researched journal suspensions/purges, thus keeping their *money* squarely in LJ/6A's hot little hands.
Because it's all about the money.
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
- Unconscious parents may allow minor children access to their credit cards, thus allowing minors to buy an 'Adult Pass'.
Some users may feel any fee is too high, and they'd be right if LJ/6A charged more than twenty bucks.
*But should go lower*
An organized list, or a few short paragraphs detailing suggestions for implementation
- I'm not a tech, and have no idea how this would be 'implemented', however, i'm sure the presentation and billing would be remarkably similar to buying of icon space, account time and gifts, so i'm sure you guys can figure that part out all on your own.
